Community Foundation Scholarship Winners Essay

The Community Foundation of Western MA accepts completed applications from
January 1, 2018 through March 31, 2018.

 


Complete Applications Include:

1. A completed and submitted online application
2. An applicant’s most recent academic transcript
3. A completed copy of the applicant’s 2018-2019 Student Aid Report

Commonly Asked Questions about the Application Process:


How do I begin the online application?

Click on this Apply Online link and scroll to the Apply button at the bottom of the page.  You will be asked to create an account by entering your email address and creating a password.  After creating your account you will be directed to the application.


Do I have to complete the entire application at one time?

No.  You may return to your application as many times as you like before submission.  You will need your password to do so.


Why are there red* after some of the questions?

The red* indicates you are required to answer the question.  If you do not you won’t be able to submit the application.


How do I know that my application submitted successfully?

You will receive an email confirming the successful completion of your application upon clicking the submit button.  If you do not receive this email within a few minutes of submission please contact us at (413) 732-2858 for assistance.

Caribbean American Association of Lake County Scholarship

The Caribbean American Association of Lake County established the scholarship fund to support the students of Caribbean parentage. Five scholarships will be awarded annually.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must attend one of the following high schools in Lake County: East Ridge HS, Lake Mineola HS, Leesburg HS, South Lake HS, Tavares HS
  • Participated in a variety of activities: school, civic, church, and work experience
  • Essay
  • Scholarship is based on financial need, academic record, character and probability of success

Clermont High School Alumni Scholarship

Clermont High School existed for many years and ultimately became a part of South Lake High School in 1993 when it was consolidated with Groveland High School. The Clermont High School Alumni have an active association and meet annually for their reunion. The alumni organization decided to start a scholarship that recognizes an outstanding high school senior. To qualify for this scholarship, the student must have a family member who attended Clermont High School. One scholarship of $1000 will be awarded annually.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • Financial Need
  • Academic achievement, including grades, rank in class, standardized test scores and achievement test scores
  • Community/extracurricular involvement/volunteering activities
  • Awards & recognition
  • Family member of a Clermont High School alumni
  • Studying in the US
  • Must be a graduating high school senior

Don Wickham Memorial Scholarship

Don Wickham was dedicated to community health and welfare and brought quality healthcare and health-related services to the community. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded each year. This scholarship may be used at any accredited vocational-technical school, community college, 4-year college or university.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • The applicant must have been a student at East Ridge High School, South Lake High School, Lake Minneola High School, Montverde Academy or Real Life Academy for at least a full school year.
  • Must be an American citizen and be loyal to the United States of America.
  • The applicant must have demonstrated good character, leadership, and community involvement.

Emma Keown Memorial Scholarship

Emma Keown was a 2013 graduate of South Lake High School. As a senior she became a member of the South Lake swim team and was elected co-captain. Emma loved her experience on the team and it was one of the highlights of her time at South Lake High School. She went on to Lake Sumter State College and had just decided to major in psychology and criminal justice when her beautiful life was cut short. She was always a giving person and liked to help others, and her family decided to honor her spirit of giving with the establishment of this $1000 annual scholarship. Her family hopes that her name will live on in Clermont and at South Lake High School where she was so loved by her family and friends.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be graduating from South Lake High School and participated on the swim team as a senior
  • Must have a 2.5 grade point average or above

Frank B. Farr Jr. Scholarship

Frank B. Farr, Jr. was a scholar and athlete at Groveland High School. One $500 scholarship will be awarded. The applicant may be able to re-apply for a continuing scholarship for up to three years if he or she continues to be enrolled as a full-time college student and maintains a 2.5 unweighted GPA. This scholarship may be used at any accredited vocational-technical school, community college, 4-year college or university.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • The applicant must have been a student at South Lake High School at least one full school year.
  • The applicant must have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or above.

This scholarship is based on financial need, academic performance, character and leadership.


Howard Stockton Memorial Scholarship

Howard Stockton’s life was devoted to contributing to the world around him. A $1,000 scholarship may be awarded each year. This scholarship may be used at any accredited vocational-technical school, community college, 4-year college or university.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • The applicant must have been a student at East Ridge High School, South Lake High School, Lake Minneola High School, or Montverde Academy for at least a full school year.
  • The applicant must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be an American citizen and be loyal to the United States of America.
  • The applicant must have demonstrated good character, leadership, and community involvement

Julian & Ruby Ann (Cherry) Rowe Scholarship

The scholarship was established to honor a graduating senior who attends high school in South Lake County. Julian and Cherry Ann Rowe were very involved in their community so the scholarship recipient should be invested with the community. A $1000 scholarship is awarded annually that can be renewed for up to four years.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of the US
  • Maintain a 2.75 grade point average
  • Community/extracurricular involvement/volunteering activities

Kiwanis Club of South Lake Scholarship

The Kiwanis Club of South Lake is dedicated to improving lives of children and families in South Lake County. The Kiwanis Club of South Lake awards up to four $1,000 scholarships each year.
This scholarship may be used at any accredited vocational-technical school, community college, 4-year college or university.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • The applicant must have been a student at either East Ridge High School, South Lake High School or Lake Minneola High School for at least a year.
  • Must reside within the South Lake Hospital tax district.
  • The scholarship is based on financial need, character and leadership.
  • You must be an American Citizen and loyal to the United States of America.

Pig on the Pond Educational Scholarship

The Pig on the Pond, Inc. scholarship awards are made possible by revenue generated at the annual Pig on the Pond event. We are currently able to offer scholarships valued at up to $10,000 ($2,500 for up to 4 years) to students who reside in South Lake County regardless of where they attend high school.

Applicants will be determined by the Pig on the Pond, Inc. Board of Directors. This scholarship may be used at any accredited vocational-technical school, community college, 4-year college or university.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • Scholarships are offered to students who reside in the South Lake Hospital tax district for at least one year, regardless of where they attend high school.
  • The applicant must have an unweighted GPA of at least 2.5 and a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

Shaw Buck Athletic Scholarship

Shaw Buck coached many sports at Groveland High School for more than 40 years. This scholarship is established and funded in honor of Coach Shaw Buck by the Groveland High School Alumni Association. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year. This scholarship may be used at any accredited vocational-technical school, community college, 4-year college or university.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • The applicant must have been a student at South Lake High School at least one full school year.
  • The applicant must have lettered in some athletic endeavor at SLHS.
  • The applicant must have a strong leadership and moral character of the type demonstrated by Shaw Buck.
  • The applicant must not have been awarded a full scholarship from an institution of higher learning.

South Lake Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

The South Lake Chamber of Commerce is essential to the economic growth of the South Lake community. The South Lake Chamber of Commerce awards up to six $750 scholarships each year. The applicant must attend Lake Sumter Community College or UCF South Lake Campus for two years.

Initial Eligibility Requirements:

  • The applicant must have been a student at East Ridge High School, South Lake High School or Lake Minneola High School for at least a full school year.
  • The applicant must have a weighted GPA of 3.0 or above and a demonstrated need for financial assistance.
  • The applicant should have participated in a variety of activities: school, civic/church, and work experiences.
